On The Waterfront: Penn Street Trail Officially Opens

The Waterfront Trail will ultimately link Spring Garden to Penn Treaty Park!

Last week the Delaware River Waterfront Corp (DRWC) officially opened the first segment of the planned 5-mile waterfront trail - and it's in Northern Liberties.Running for 1400 linear feet from Spring Garden Street northeast to Ellen Street, the trail includes key elements that will be part of the full Central Delaware Waterfront Trail in years to come:- The city's first separated on-road bicycle and pedestrian trail, with a 12' bi-directional bikeway and 10' walkway- Rain gardens to absorb storm water- Part of the East Coast Greenway and the Circuit, providing a crucial bicycle network connection for the city and region- Custom designed benches, bike racks, and solar lighting. —
