The NLNA is looking to form an education committee. The purpose of the committee will be to reach out to area public schools to assist with and augment the educational process of the local youth. If you are interested in volunteering please contact Micah Gold-Markel at micah at aveight dot com
Are you interested in seeing the Central Delaware Waterfront developed in a coordinated and responsible fashion? Read the new report from Penn Praxis which lays out a plan for the Central Delaware.
Let your state legislators know you need them to support the
Governor’s Education Budget
(A $2.6 billion increase for Philadelphia, and a six-year-plan
to get needy districts to adequate funding levels)
Follow these steps:
Introduce yourself and request to talk to a legislative aide or staff member (if not, then speak to whomever is available)
Share your address if asked
Express disappointment with the Senate vote on Senate BIll 1389, which recommended cutting the education budget increase by 41%, including pre-K.
Request that your state legislator supports six years and the full funding formula in the Governor’s budget. Demand that Philadelphia receives its full share. Emphasize that the state has a legacy to uphold, and Philadelphia reaches the black in 2010 IF the Governor's budget goes through. Charters also benefit from an improved funding formula.
Decry the fact that PA currently ranks at the bottom of the nation (46th) in the amount of state contribution to public schools, which puts pressure on local property taxes. We have to do better!
Tell them you'll be watching for their vote!
