City Workers Strike
Trash Pick Up
There will be NO curbside trash pick up while this strike is ongoing. Please do not leave your trash on the curb to rot in this heat, blow around, and attract pests.
Liberty Lands
For the duration of the strike please refrain from using the trash cans at Liberty Lands - when possible carry your trash home.
City Response & Trash Alternatives
Disclaimer - We support our city workers and their right to strike. Using these temporary drop-offs/sanitation centers is considered by the Union as crossing the picketline/scabbing. In solidarity with the Union, your best option is holding your garbage until pickup resumes.
The City is preparing to open six sanitation drop-off centers that will be available 6am - 10pm. There are also temporary drop off locations Monday to Friday 6am to 10pm. All locations are observing public holidays. See resource below for locations.
The closest site to us is at 8TH ST & MASTER ST.
Eight bag maximum and should be disposed of on your regular trash day if possible (Thursdays or Fridays for most in the area).
No bulk items.
Recycling is only accepted at the Sanitation Centers and should be held as along as possible before disposal.
Use a garbage disposal for food scraps or compost if possible. Bennett Compost serves the area and accepts coffee grounds + filters, tea bags, eggs + eggshells, fruits + vegetables, nut shells, dairy, meat + bones, seafood shells, rice, pasta, bread and grains.
